I discovered something last night, something that’s making me kick myself for any and every instance of trying to get Master to move.

You see, I normally hate mainland. It’s a noobridden, griefer infested, often laggy, ad-saturated mess most of the time. We have had two neighbors now that have given us trouble, and I always wanted out.

Until, that is, I discovered we’re on the shoreline to a good 30 open-sea “protected land” sims.

I own a sailboat.

It’s Trudeau Jaqcat, Cute little vessel, single sail. “Based on the famous work and pleasureboat design of the Cape Cod region – plumb stem, beamy, mast in the eyes, gaff rig, big barn-door rudder, single head-stay – she was lofted and built up using RL boat plans, so her lines and proportions are exacting and true to life,” as the notecard puts it. It’s the coolest little craft, and I’d recommend it (Or any of Trudeau’s fine craft) to anyone. It’s got a fully scripted sailing system based on SL’s own wind (Or you can set your own wind if you find it too fiddly), as well as a backup motor. The cabin opens up to reveal a bed, and it’s got three crew positions and 3 passenger positions (the passenger positions generally being a bit silly and whimsical)

Mickie and I always used to urge Master to move, her to Bondomia, myself to Extropia. I’m kicking myself for it now, because I would have missed the wonderful experience of having my own marina to launch my little vessel out into the bay (as I’ve been calling it ^.^).

I deserve a spanking.

I sailed it the first time last night. It was awesome… I’m used to sailing Extropia, with it’s four mostly-open sims. Those are great, but… this is just a whole world of magnitude bigger. 14 sims tall, 2 sims wide at it’s narrowest point, 4 sims wide at it’s widest. It’s an SL mariner’s dream come true.

So, I take off last night, only the most general of headings in mind: south. I hadn’t even zoomed the map out to see what I was dealing with yet. I could tell it was only a couple sims wide from our place, but it seemed to stretch endlessly to the north and south. South I sailed, following the water wherever it would lead.

For the most part I avoided land. I wasn’t here for that! But I found the cutest little island that caught my eye…

Here is Zebrasil Island…. cute, yes? It stretches over two sims, Zebrasil to the north and Ichelus to the south. The north holds a small village with huts, a dock, a small walled area, etcetera. On the south end of the island, though, is probably the coolest part: The volcanoe!

Completing the island theme is a volcanoe on the south end of the island. It even spits out lava bombs! We’ll all be thankful the lava flows run into the sea…

I snapped a bunch of pictures, determined to write a blog post about it (which you are obviously reading :P ). That done, I headed back home, opting to sail rather than teleport.

“I’m sailing away…

Set an open course for the virgin sea…

‘Cause I’ve got to be free…

Free to face a life that’s ahead of me…”
