Heya all! As a heads up for anyone I haven’t told, I’m currently in the process of installing Linux as my computer’s primary operating system, so I might be out of world for a while. Hopefully not too long, but I’ve already hit a snag that’s going to delay me a bit.
Why am I switching? Well, for one, I’m sick and tired of Windows’ general futziness. It seems that, even with a new install, there’s always something crashing or slowing down. I also hate how Vista treats you like a toddler when it comes to playing with settings. I also don’t game near as much as I used to (I’ll be keeping a windows partition just in case). Finally, I used to use Linux, and I miss it! Frankly, it’s a far superior operating system, even taking into account driver issues and setup difficulty.
For those of you that are curious, I will be using PCLinuxOS, which I found to be very easy to set up and use in the past. So far, working with the live CD, that’s been the case here as well.
See you all on the other side!

For some reason, Linux can’t read that snazzy mirrored array I keep all my data on. It’s giving me an error about… gah, *something* bad, and to fix it I risk losing all the data on it. I spent all night last night (until about 3 in the morning) backing up everything I want to keep (there’s a lot of crap I’m not going to bother keeping), and now I’m ready to play with it a bit and see if I can’t get it working.

Yee Ha! PCLinuxOS will be upgrading soon. First will be 2007.1 then 2008. There will be no need to do a complete install, just upgrading from the repositories in PCLinuxOS 2007. Have fun.

Thanks for the info… will said upgrade include better support for SATA RAID arrays? That’s my only hangup at the moment, 2007 won’t read mine.

Oo, good luck with that!

Heh I should probably put up a followup post… short of it is, I’m currently using PCLinuxOS, and loving it.
I installed the 2008 minime, and just added the packages I wanted.
Oh, I and DID find the solution to my RAID woes… apparently the nforce raid isn’t true hardware raid, so Linux needs a specific package to support it. >.>
